Resonators & Hold Fast, Stand Sure, I Scream a Revolution

This exhibition at The Hepworth Wakefield by artist Serena Korda is inspired by an essay written for Wakefield Art Gallery in the 50s which referred to clay vessels as ‘daughters of necessity’. The work is made up of 29 porcelain mushrooms strung from the ceiling as inverted mycelia and played as bells. Korda sees mushrooms as a portal for entering our otherworld subconsciousness of the grotesque, magic and poisonous. For The Hepworth Wakefield, Korda has also created a new work, Resonators, comprising five large, glazed vessels with various openings. Visitors are invited to place their ears to every vessel to hear a range of resonant tones.
